“Vacation”
// June 25th, 2009 // No Comments » // Miscellaneous // Posted by Dana
So the high risk specialist said that I am doing great, that the twins look wonderful and I should “keep doing what I am doing.” That is great news! I was thrilled. She said I could continue to work for another two+ weeks. This is also great as I am moving up my group of kids and getting a new group of kids. I am glad I will be there for the transition. I am, however, looking forward to what I am lovingly referring to as my “vacation” and not my “maternity leave.”
I feel like with Zeke in school for a part of the day, I will have some time to get some stuff done around here, but not over-do it. I feel like I am not going to have time like this again. That things will get so busy and so overwhelming that I will not get a break like this again for 20 years. Is that possible? Am I over-reacting?
I have so much I want to get done around here and I feel like I wil have the time to do it, I just have to make sure I don’t get too crazy and end up on bedrest. So I will take it easy and “plan out my vacation.” That will be the first couple of days of “vacation” when I am getting “nothing” done, I will be in my “planning mode.” I could even ooch that a to three or four days if I want. Then hopefully I can set up a nice and easy schedule of being productive and taking it easy. I am just hoping I can do all that I have in mind to do.
Car Shopping

Okay, so we began our car shopping for me this weekend. We’ve been looking online at all kinds of different things, and the only thing we ruled out this weekend was we didn’t particularly like the Town and Country by Chrysler. I’m mostly sold on getting a minivan for myself, but the other side of the argument is do I really need one? Since we’re having the twins added soon, the thought is that I won’t be able to fit all 3 into the back of my Regal with two in their reversed infant carriers and one in the regular car seat. We could go with the Radian80 car seat and get 3 of them or so to put across the back of my car - then I can just keep going with my current vehicle. But we called the mechanic and asked him his thoughts and he said get a minivan.
So his favorites were the Chrysler line, followed by the Honda and Hyundai. He did not mention the Toyota though. I’m just curious as to what anyone out there in cyberspace is thinking? Anyone that had a kid who was still in a car seat (not a booster) who had to add 2 infant carriers?
Jeopardy!

Okay so George and I have to keep reminding ourselves, “NOT in the form of a question!!” We somehow continue to ask Zeke, “do you want to get a diaper change?” “do you want to go up and have a tubby?” Of course, since we’ve asked for his opinion, he then has every right to say, “NO!” So I say, “not in the form of a question!” Instead, as I do at work as a preschool teacher for 12 two-year olds is say, “it’s your turn to….” or “lets……” or “it’s time to….” I need to bring my work home!
My Three Crumbs
// May 27th, 2009 // No Comments » // Miscellaneous // Posted by Dana
My good friend Melissa started calling me “cookie” when I was pregnant with my first because I baked a lot of cookies. She called him my little “crumb” as we hadn’t found out what gender he was. It was a cute way to refer to him. Well, it stuck. Now that we are pregnant with TWINS, I lovingly refer to all of my babies as “my three crumbs.”
George and I agreed that we were going to wait with these babies until delivery to find out the gender. I sort of had a change of heart and my husband, being the most awesome husband in the world, gave in and said we could find out. I think he knew how very important it became to me.
We had a little scare with one of the baby’s hearts having a bright spot. This can be a marker for Downs Syndrome. George and I had decided and agreed years ago that whatever baby God intended for us, would be our baby. So we werent’ going to do anything if one of the baby’s did/does have an issue. We had to wait three horrendously long weeks to see the cardiologist.
We went today to the maternal fetal specialist and we saw the cardiologist who said everything looks great! Hooray! And while we were there we found out that we are having 2 boys!!! So now My Three Crumbs can turn into My Three Sons! I am humming the theme as I type. And no, we are not adopting a little girl and calling her “Dodie.” That’s when that show “jumped the shark.”
I am just so thrilled about this news. I was beginning to think that it was a boy and girl by the way I was carrying. My second thought was 2 boys. The one that really would have shocked me is if we were having 2 girls. I think George would still have liked to have waited but I am just so happy to know this news. And now we can talk to Zeke about it and sort of drill it in that he is getting 2 brothers. He says, “2 babies” and now we can work on “brothers.” George is the best husband and I thank him a lot for agreeing to find out. He laughed at me when I offered to find out and keep it a secret from him. He’s probably right.
So hopefully I will keep up with this blog and all of the ramblings. It’s therapeutic!
Interesting Perspective

So my buddy Roger sent this over to me the other day, and I thought it was interesting so I wanted to share it around:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/science/05/13/mackay.energy/index.html
Really does make you think? I use Compact Flourescents - or rather try to - in the house. Finding ones that are dimmable seems to be a challenge. My other difficulty comes from the slow startup time. That being said, I have to figure out what brand the bulbs I got in the mail from my power company are. Allegheny Power sent out 2 bulbs, and I stuck one of them in the bathroom and it really does light up fast. I was impressed. There doesn’t seem to be any of the normal “lag time” to get the thing running. More details once I figure out where they are purchasable!

So it’s looking pretty good, but we’re both still working on it. Going to have it rolling along here soon! In the meantime, if you haven’t seen the trailer for Moon you really should.
